This year for the
first time, due to huge demand, we are holding three days of
fungus walks, including a mid-week walk.
Saturday 18th
October
Sunday 19th October
Wednesday 22nd
October
All walks are by
booking only, with National Trust at Croft Castle - 01568 780246 and
a small charge will be made.
Whilst we try to
cater for all abilities several of the paths we use are unsuitable for
wheelchairs and prams or buggies. Suitable strong footwear is
needed plus waterproof clothing as the walks will go ahead even if the
weather is inclement. Please note that whilst well behaved dogs
are welcome if kept on a short lead, umbrellas are discouraged!
NT Croft Castle is
perhaps one of the best sites for finding fungi in the area. Its
huge range and diversity is second to none and there is always something
to be found whatever the time of year. Each Autumn we hold walks
through the estate not just to seek out the fungi hiding there but to
also enjoy finding the other fruits and nuts of nature's store-cupboard
and the changing colours of the surrounding woodlands.
Don't forget that
yet again this year the National Trust are continuing with their Waxcap
Watch - check out the details on their website or pick up a leaflet from
our display stand during the fungi events.
